School is out, the windows are down and the grill is lit! We are ringing in the summer and planning some fun family time. With a little bit of planning, June promises a host of special days to create some family memories.
With the price of gas this summer, many families are planning to stay local and explore neighboring sights. After a day of exploring a great way to relax would be to enjoy a cozy backyard oasis that you have created as a weekend warrior. Approach your project by designing it to your style and family needs. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to make it work. Start by planting a corner garden or filling pots with colorful annuals to bring life to your yard. Take advantage of summer specials on outdoor furniture. Patio sets for lounging, dining sets for eating alfresco, three person swings for relaxing and a fire pit for warding off the chill of a summer evening can make your backyard a haven that you can enjoy throughout the year. If your backyard retreat has been well used throughout the years, bring back the welcome with some bright colored cushions, area rugs, lighting fixtures and a fresh coat of paint on chairs and tables.
Use water features to create a calming effect; relaxing the body and the brain. Add statues and outdoor décor to give your yard some character. Family projects such as painting bird houses, stepping stones, pottery and wall art adds a touch of your family’s character to an area that will be enjoyed by anyone stepping into your oasis.
